How To Sew In Weave By Yourself?

How to sew in weave by yourself?

Sew in weave is still a sought-after and protective way to add length and volume to your hair. Sew in hair is a process to braid your natural hair and sew hair weave or hair extensions into your braids directly. If the process is handled properly, sew-in hair can only give your scalp a break but is also a time-saving option. Cause you don't need to reinstall the hair every morning.

You can go to the salon and ask for help from a pro hairdresser. Or you can try to sew in weaves at home.

What you will need:

Hair shampoo and conditioner;

Hairdryer;

Human hair weaves (2-3 bundles)

Thread and needle;

A wide-tooth comb;

Bobby pins and goody rubber bands;

Step 1: Prepare your natural hair

Shampoo and condition your natural hair thoroughly to remove dirt and oil. Blow it dry with a hairdryer, and comb the hair to make it detangle. Cleaning your scalp and natural hair deeply in advance can help to prolong the lifespan of the sew-in and protect your natural hair.

Step 2: Section out some hair to leave out

Section out a portion of your hair to leave out. Typically, I choose to leave out the parting area and area around the front of the hairline. Be noticed that to make sure your leave-out hair is enough to cover the tracks of the sew-in. In this way, I can put the hair into a ponytail or half-up-half-down hairstyle.

Step 3: Braid cornrows

Before installing hair weaves, we need to braid down the natural hair, this process you may need assistance from another pair of hands, you can ask for help from your family or your friends, of course, a pro will be better. Cause this can be hard especially if you don't know how to braid the hair on the back.

Start from the parting area and braid down the natural hair into the cornrows. Once you finish a braid, use a small goody rubber band to close off the braid. Be noticed that avoid braiding too tight or too loose. If you have long hair, you can take the excess braids and tuck them into the gap between the cornrows. Pin them down with some bobby pins to make them as flat as possible. Clip each end of the hair weft with bobby pins so that it can lay down around your head.

Step 4: Sew in hair weave

Thread the needle and start to sew human hair weave into each cornrow. Start from the edge of the parting area, place the hair weave against the braid and let the threaded needle go through under the braid, and then pull it up to go through the hair weft so that the hair weft can be secured firmly. Go ahead to sew in weave until you reach the end of the track, fold the hair weave up and continue to sew in the next row. Repeat these steps until you finish a full head sew-in.

Step 5: Take off the leave out

Undo the leave out hair and make it cover the tracks to reach a natural effect. Comb the hair with a wide-tooth comb to make the hair strands blend well with your natural hair. Be noticed that you should choose hair weaves that look close to your natural hair if you plan to sew in hair with no closure.

 Now the sew-in process is finished, and you can style it as you desire. The sew-in hair process seems hard to do at first but you do get better with practice and so just try it out.

To ensure the sew-in weave can last for a longer time on your head, we are going to share with you some maintenance tips at the end of this post.

Tips to take care of the sew-in hair:

Tip 1: We highly suggest you shampoo it at least once every two weeks. And don't forget to wash your natural hair underneath while washing your hair sew-in weave. You can wash your sew-in while taking a shower so that the residue can be rinsed out thoroughly.

Tip 2: Apply hair conditioner to the hair tips after shampooing to moisturize the hair.

Tip 3: Set the hairdryer or styling tools at the lowest heat setting while drying and styling your hair.

Tip 4: Use a silk scarf to wrap your hair to reduce friction from the pillow so that to protect the hair extensions.

Tip 4: Take off the sew-in in time, we suggest don't let the sew-in last on your head for over two months. If you feel unbearable itchy, it's maybe time to remove your sew-in.
